Saviors & Fools
Something I have heard quoted at me recently, and nearly incessantly, in support of the idea that we should not look for political saviors, is the biblical teaching that we should “not put our trust in princes.” Well and good, but neither do the Scriptures recommend that Christians seek to be governed by brutes and fools, to which some of my acquaintance do not seem to object—seeing in it, I suppose, some kind of pious duty.
