Choosing Schools
by Donald T. Williams
I was recently asked for my advice on how to find a college that is not hostile to historic Christianity. Here is what I said:
You have to be careful even with schools that identify as Christian. Ask if they have a doctrinal statement that all the faculty members have to sign annually—and read it. Find out who the faculty are and read some of their publications to see if they are forthrightly defending the faith or fudging. But a secular school can be a good challenge if the student is prepared and has a solid church to connect with in the college town, one that understands the importance of apologetics. A secular school where you know where you stand is better than a so-called Christian school that is compromised.
