Those familiar with the life and work of Fr. Michael Scanlan, who fell asleep in the Lord this past Sunday, January 7, will recognize him as the leading light in the rise of Franciscan University of Steubenville as an orthodox Catholic school. In this 1992 article in Touchstone, “Faithfulness in Christian Higher Education,” he tells some of the story behind his work there as president. At the end:
It all finally comes down to personal honesty, institutional integrity, and faithfulness. Leading a Christian college is a matter of being who we say we are and sticking to it, and depending on the Lord for guidance and resources.
Amen. May his Memory be eternal.
