chick fil a jpg 300x200 The Most Dangerous Business in DenverI have long been a fan of Chick-fil-A since I visited my first one at the Ballston Mall in Arlington, Virginia, more than 20 years ago. Today, I feel as if it is almost a holiday when I visit one close to where I live. Especially in the past few years, as more and more sanctimonious Leftists and Homosexualists have boycotted Chick-fil-A, I find that it is now even cleaner and more drug free than ever before. I also feel much safer knowing that Homosexualists and their Leftist allies are enjoying their chicken sandwiches somewhere else. But now, in the city of Denver, Colorado, the city council members are deciding whether Chick-fil-A should be allowed to open at the Denver “International” Airport.

According to a report in the Denver Post, Denver city council member, the Honorable Paul Lopez called opposition to the presence of Chick-Fil-A at the airport “really, truly a moral issue.” Despite assurances from the Chick-fil-A concessionaires that strict nondiscrimination policies will include protections based on “sexual orientation and gender identity,” the seven-year deal is now imperiled. The Honorable Robin Kniech, the Denver city council’s first openly lesbian member, said she was most worried about Chick-fil-A’s local franchise generating “corporate profits used to fund and fuel discrimination.” Of course, it will also go into the coffers to pay Denver’s city council members.

Today, September 1, Denver city attorneys are scheduled to brief the city council members behind closed doors on legal considerations affecting the decision. Chicago Mayor Rahm “the Ballerina” Emanuel sought to block a new Chick-fil-A location for similar reasons three years ago. At the time, I wrote the following article, which you can read here. At the time, the ineffectual Honorable Emanuel stated that Chick-fil-A did not embody “Chicago Values,” which I presume he meant Chicago’s famed political corruption, its gangsters, its autocratic and all-powerful labor union bosses, more than 100,000 street gang members, the murder capital of the United States (this past weekend saw the 3 murders with 31 shootings across Chicago), crumbling infrastructure, homelessness, grinding poverty, an economy in meltdown, a mostly failed public education system (a young black male from inner-city Chicago has a less than 1 in 40 chance of graduating from any college), high taxes and financial mismanagement.  (The Cook County Treasurer reported that Chicago’s debt is more than $108 billion, or approximately $63,000 per Chicago household.)  Of this debt, pension obligations for government employees are over $50 billion as Chicago’s governmental pensions are the worst funded among the nation’s largest cities. How poor is Illinois? Its state lottery winners are now being paid in IOUs. But at least those people who can do so are moving out of Chicago by the thousands each year. And the mayors of Boston and San Francisco vowed to fend off any attempt by Chick-fil-A to come into those cities. And this has also been an issue on some university campuses as well.

Well, what caused this great umbrage? Well, back in 2012, when most Americans opposed homosexual “marriage,” Chick-fil-A CEO Dan Cathy said he also opposed homosexual “marriage.” Wow, he is such a HATER! Well, the theme that most supporters of traditional marriage are haters is now mostly bankrupt given that every great lie eventually falls from its own weight. The fact that the CEO of a company so committed to Christian values that it is not even open on Sundays said he supported traditional marriage was somehow shocking. But of course, there is also that pesky thing about any company leader having First Amendment free speech rights. (I suspect that this will be part of the closed door presentation on September 1st, where an expensive federal lawsuit against Denver, with the prevailing concessionaires eligible to receive reimbursement of their legal fees under 42 USCA § 1983.)

Now as is common to most Leftists, they are world-class hypocrites. If the Denver city council members were truly concerned about “moral” issues, they might already know that two of the current airport tenants are Ben and Jerry’s, and Starbucks. The Starbucks Foundation has donated to Planned Parenthood, and Ben and Jerry’s parent company, Unilever, has donated to Planned Parenthood as well. Why would any company donate to an organization whose executives have been caught discussing the sale of preborn baby parts? Kathy Trinko, writing in The Daily Signal, posed a profound question about Chick-fil-A at Denver’s airport: “Just try to imagine what the reaction would be if say, a Texas town tried to ban Starbucks or Ben and Jerry’s.” Indeed. Leftists and Homosexualists are free to boycott Chick-fil-A, just as I, and any other Christian or non-Christian pro-life conservative, are also free to boycott companies that support organizations that engage in criminal and morally reprehensible conduct. After all, while they are selling their fatty ice cream and overpriced coffee, I am selling my money; and everybody wants my money, but not everybody wants their ice cream or coffee. But I do hope that travelers through the Denver airport will get to eat at Chick-fil-A soon, and that the concessionaires negotiate very low concession fees to Denver.
