Representative Jesse Jackson, Jr., is reported to be ready to resign from Congress, just 15 days from winning election with about 70 percent of the vote. The odd thing is that he hasn’t even showed up in Congress for months, was reportedly diagnosed with bipolar disorder, did not even campaign against two opponents, and was still elected, yet chooses to resign after winning his seat in Congress. He has not represented his constituents since last spring, did not meet with them, did not campaign, yet they elected him with no knowledge of whether he would even be able to serve or not. Chicago politics is a strange land, indeed! Jackson has also been named as a person of interest in the Rod Blagojevich scandal in which RB the Governor of Illinois, now living in a Colorado prison, was seeking to peddle Barack Obama’s Senate seat. It will be interesting to see who succeeds Jackson in Congress. The Chicago Soap Opera continues…..Get used to it. The Chicago Way, including dirty street politics, machine-style, with payoffs, has now gone fully national. Not that DC wasn’t already going down that road.

Update here. Looks like there may be some dirty business going on, but typical for Chicago and beyond.
