According to the WSJ, Illinois is “the Greece Next Door” to Wisconsin.
Run up spending and debt, raise taxes in the naming of balancing the budget, but then watch as deficits rise and your credit-rating falls anyway. That’s been the sad pattern in Europe, and now it’s hitting that mecca of tax-and-spend government known as Illinois.
Though too few noticed, this month Moody’s downgraded Illinois state debt to A2 from A1, the lowest among the 50 states. That’s worse even than California.
I might quote more, but I am not a subscriber and can’t read the rest of the article. But I’ve already read enough. As Illinois rots, larger (and smaller) companies start making serious moves to leave the state, while the pols (esp the Gov.) toddle around offering them tax breaks (bribes) to stay, while raising our taxes and continuing the spending. “Tax and spend” other people’s money. “Worse even than California”?

Perhaps it’s time for Touchstone to consider moving to warmer climes (NOT California!).
