America’s is an innate “liberalism” that makes a principle and a virtue of accommodating incompatible political forces. The ideals of universal suffrage combined with Constitutional checks and balances cannot restrain determined seditionists acting upon a populace with insufficient moral fiber, as people like John Adams understood at the founding.
